Exchanges

SSAJRP supports young and established scientists through:

Faculty and student exchange grants promote knowledge transfer between Switzerland and South Africa by facilitating the establishment of cross-country cooperation partnerships and networks. In addition, the grants enhance the personal development and future career prospects of students and early-stage scientists.

Student exchange grants allow Swiss students to go to South Africa for research purposes and vice versa to invite South African students to come to Switzerland.

Faculty exchange grants can be used to support fellowship programmes. Both established scientists and early-stage researchers (including PhD students) are targeted.

Furthermore and within the overall aim of strengthening and establishing new cooperative networks between Switzerland and South Africa, exchange grants may now also be used for participation in joint workshops and conferences, joint seminars and summer/winter schools of the respective country. Details on these new fields of application can be found in the enlarged call document [PDF/28 KB].

Students and researchers are asked to specify grant use upon application. The priority research areas of SSAJRP apply.

A detailed budget is required. Projected expenses must be justified and related to the proposed activities.

For the new funding period of 2013-16, student & faculty exchange grant applications have to show the financial commitment of the South African partner and/or a third party. In-kind contributions can still be accounted for but applicants are required to indicate the attributable amount in Swiss francs their exchange project expects to receive from the South African counterpart.

Please visit the section Budget and Financial Guidelines for further information on allowable budget items.
